Currently, there is no dearth of entertainment. There is the cinema. There are the sports- both {indoor|in house] and outside home.. Compare this with the type of amusements that people enjoyed -before the advent of TV and Cinema. It was allinside home except for thesports. In western homes,. during thewinters, people spent their spare hours drinking in pubs, enjoying indoor games like the chess and cards or engage in music, opera etc. Now all these are replaced one by one- by the cinema , then the TV , then the color TV. It goes on. and on. Still later on , the ordinary TV with an overhead aerial made all entertainmentinside the house. Much still later on came the cable TV - with no dependence of the outdoor aerial-which limited thewatching to a single channel with no mechanism to tune the channel of choice like the radio- or with a wide range of channels that can be selected by a remote for cable TV. But the crowning development came from the satellite TV and its refinement-the TV hooked to the PC using the enormous potentials of the internet. An average American spends 16% of his time watching the TV. Not a thing restricted to America only. In other parts of the world also TV seeing has attained the status of a culture - an indispensable part of our life. In this article , I want to examine the merits of PC_TV over cable TV and over the more recent use of a PC to watchto view TV programs. Every one knows that cable TV requires extensive networks of cables-underground or over head. Its {ramifications|networking] are confined mostly to urban areas. They may not be available in the rural areas where they may not reach. For these areas probably Satellite TVs is the best. Just like the radio, they are broadcast using satellites. The only drawback with Satellite TV is that it may not work well in bad weathers- the dish antenna may be affected by rain, snow , cloudy sky , etc Regarding the pictures seen on the TV monitor, cable TV no doubt gives pictures better than with the simple TV ,by which I mean ,the TV sets depending on overhead aerials. But PC- TV gives the best of clarity of pictures compared to all the other modes of transmission.
